AlmostfreeNYC is a blog intended to introduce budget friendly events and activities to readers who want to enjoy the city without burning a hole in their pocket. NYC is overflowing with things to do, but the purpose of almostfreeNYC is to provide city seekers with exciting and low cost things to do, see, eat, and enjoy.
I’m currently a senior at Central Connecticut State University. As a journalism minor, one of my requirements was to choose a topic and create a blog showcasing the stories and information I’ve collected relating to the topic. I chose almostfreeNYC because it includes two of my favorite things; NYC and saving money. I’m in NYC on the weekends and have lots of places, events, and experiences I want to report on and share with readers looking for things to do while staying on a budget. The class is over now, but I’m continuing the blog because I’ve enjoyed it so much.
Thanks for checking out my blog and I encourage you to try some of these low cost things to do next time you visit the city!
I lived in NYC for several years in the 70s and 80s, and thought it was a great place. I tend to go by “atmosphere,” or how someplace makes me feel. It was particularly nice to be able to take my shepherd dog with me everywhere, including Bloomingdale’s! Thanks for liking my blog and hope you have a wonderful life.

Fabulous idea for a blog – NYC and saving are two of my favorites as well! I was born there and used to go to visit family all the time but have only gone twice as a tourist because it’s so expensive! Will be following for sure…thanks also for checking out my blog – I appreciate it!

I like your blog. Visiting NYC is something I’ve always wanted to do, but my ultimate dream would be to live there…even in a cardboard box. 🙂

A great concept. This would be a good marketing approach for tourism orgs, especially to recruit people who would like to visit somewhere but think that money is a barrier.

Also… I have no idea how the American University system works… But I’m guessing “senior” means you’re graduating soon? If so, best of luck!!! I’m sure you’ll finish with excellent marks since you have such impressive projects like this beautiful blog under your belt! 😊

Never been to NYC and honestly, I never wanted to go. I’m not a big fan of crowds. If your blog has done nothing else, it’s made me want to see the things you write about. I probably won’t, but the desire is there now.
Congrats on a great blog, and I’m following now so keep the posts coming 🙂

Nice blog and interesting topic. Always wanted to visit NYC, but my budget would never allow me to make the trip (let alone pay for anything once I got there). But if’n I ever do, I’ll visit your blog first for ideas on where to go.

Sounds like a great idea for a Blog and I’d be surprised only if it wasn’t a big hit. Thanks for stopping by my place, and now that I’m following you, I’m sure I’ll be back here quite often in the very near future.

Thank you for leaving a like on one of my blog posts! It looks like we are both New York City fanatics living in the wrong state. I will definitely be utilizing your blog during my next few trips to the city. As a college student myself, money is definitely tight but should never inhibit an adventure. As you highlight in your blog, there are ways to get around money and still have a rewarding experience. Thank you again! Good luck with school and your career. Cheers!

Very exciting!! You definitely lucked out with beer and restaurant week, you’ll get some great deals! February is a great time to visit because it’s (a little) less chaotic than months like November and December.
Safe travels 🙂
