New York City’s First Cat Café: Meow Parlour

Meow Parlour, New York City’s first cat café which opened less than a month ago, is everything a cat lover has ever dreamt of.

What is a cat café?
Cat cafés originally started in Asia in the 90s and quickly grew popular all over the world…now including New York City.  Meow Parlour is a comfortable space filled with tables, chairs, pillows, an endless amount of cat toys, and yes- cats.

The space was created to allow visitors time to interact with cats.  Many visitors are self proclaimed cat ladies (and gents) that don’t have the space or time to care for a cat on a full time basis, but cat cafés, like Meow Parlour, allow them a dose of feline fun.

Meow Parlour also attracts guests looking for a new full-time furry friend.  All the cats are adoptable.  Meow Parlour has teamed up with KittyKind, a NYC based no kill rescue group which provides the cat café with all the adoptable cats.  All the cats are extremely friendly, which is a top priority to Christina Ha, the Co-Founder of Meow Parlour.

How does it work?
For now, all visits must be booked via their website, which can be found here.  Eventually, they will allow walk-ins, but for now, make sure to keep checking their reservation page for available dates (they’re currently booked until March).  It’s $4 per half hour, but you can stay longer and pay the difference on your way out.  There’s also free wi-fi and plenty of outlets to charge your phone/computer.

I’m hearing a lot about cats, but what about the café?
Meow Parlour Patisserie is the café located around the corner from Meow Parlour at 34 Ludlow Street.  Personally, I’m glad the yummy treats are made in a different space…without a dozen cats roaming around.  Visitors are welcome to purchase any food or drink from the patisserie and bring it back to Meow Parlour.  Click here for their menu (which includes cat shaped baked goods!)

Open daily (except Wednesdays) from 12-8pm
46 Hester Street

  1. I visited Seoul recently and they are so into those kind of cats / dogs / sheeps cafés.. The only thing the pictures don’t tell, aside from the cuteness, is the smell 😛 Especially in the cats café. But truth is, it feels so cozy to be surrounded by quiet and beautiful cats, still.
    Great post 🙂

  2. Thank you for liking my post the other day about New Year’s. This is so funny you posted this, because I just posted their website on my Facebook to tell my brother we have to go next time! We are from Central NY, but love NYC, and since now we both live in New Jersey, NYC is closer than before! I am definitely going to try this place out sometime. 🙂 I think it’s an excellent idea. Love your blog and I shared it with my mom and brother to check out. Very helpful and interesting posts! -Megan/Sugar Lows

  3. I really like your website, and thanks for visiting me! Everyone tells me that NYC is the place you have to see and experience. I have met some nice people from NYC that assured me it is safe also. If I go i”ll be glad to have your tips. Well done blogging.

  4. What a great idea! But I’m interested to know if there are health regulations they have to follow? In Australia, you wouldn’t be able to serve food/drinks anywhere where there are animals. Or are the two places separated?

  5. I lived in Shanghai last year and it was a big enough thing there. I hear London now has one and one is opening in Dublin. My friend tells me that there is a puppy café in Taiwan!

  6. I had heard about these in Asia and always thought if there were ever the perfect place for me, it would be a cat café – tea in one hand, and an adorable feline to pet in the other. I hope to make it back to NY sometime. Went there on a business trip a couple years ago and was only there for 24 hours. Now I have an extra incentive!

  7. That is so very neat. Did not realize they had one of these in New York now. Well, just one more reason (among what are already soooo many) to visit. By the way, love the view these sweet kitties have out those very big windows.
