Some of New York City’s most famous views come from observation decks from the Empire State Building or the Top of the Rock, but because of their touristy nature, tickets to see these views cost anywhere from $30-$70. Luckily, there’s the Roosevelt Island Tram. For a swipe of your Metrocard, you can get 250 feet above the streets of NYC and witness some of the most spectacular views of the East River and the Upper East Side of Manhattan, as well as Manhattan’s Roosevelt Island.
For $2.50, you can’t beat the views, but the icing on the cake is definitely the fact that you’ll avoid all the tourists. Most of the people on the tram are commuting to and from their homes in Roosevelt Island, but there’s usually one or two people snapping picture after picture (ahem…pictures below for proof).
The tram is located at 59th Street & Second Avenue, and runs on 15-minute intervals. It can hold up to 110 people, but realistically there’s usually 20-30 people travelling at a time, allowing enough room to walk around the tram and get all the best views for your buck.
Check out the amazing views you can get from the tram at night.
I never knew about this! Thanks so much for sharing; I can’t wait to check it out!
